Optomap

This scanning laser ophthalmoscope is a wellness screening tool that assists us in the evaluation of your retina, and may eliminate the need to have your eyes dilated. With the optomap@ we can discover any abnormalities or confirm the health of your retina, diagnose any potentially harmful diseases and determine the best course of action.

The optomap@ Retinal Exam is a simple procedure. In less than a second with one click of a button, this instrument non-invasively generates a high resolution, digital, color image. This image becomes a part of your permanent medical record and enables us to enhance the digital image to see more of your retina, measure aspects of your eye and magnify some of the finer details. We can also track changes in your eye over time by comparing each year’s optomap@. In addition, you take a more active role in your eye care by reviewing the images with your doctor and learning about how to “Protect Your Vision.”

Comprehensive eye exams
We believe that a thorough eye examination is so much more than the assessment for a good
pair of glasses. Blurry vision can also be due to underlying systemic conditions such as poorly
controlled high blood pressure, diabetes, or neurological disorders. We thoroughly evaluate the
function and integrity of your eyes, as well as the health of your visual system for potentially
sight-threatening conditions. For example, glaucoma, and high blood pressure may cause
extensive damage to the eye before overt symptoms arise. Glaucoma evaluation, therefore,
is an integral part of our comprehensive exams, as well as a thorough retinal evaluation. We
utilize a blend of the latest in technology, as well as what has been tried and proven over time
to enable us to better assess and predict ocular and visual dysfunction. We take the time to
review these findings with you, and make recommendations that best suits your lifestyle and
occupational needs.
Treatment of eye diseases
Our doctors have been trained and licensed in advanced optometric care to manage and treat
most ocular and lid diseases. We also work together with your primary care physician to keep
them informed of your ocular health status. Conditions such as LASIK or PRK refractive surgery
related complications, conjunctivitis (pink eye), iritis, glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes, bumps or
lumps of the eyelids, and corneal infections due to contact lens wear are some of the conditions
that are managed and treated by our doctors.
Treatment for dry eyes
As simple as “dry eyes” may seem, this condition is a common complaint that ranges in severity
from subtle but chronic irritation to the inability to keep the eyes open. Causes of dry eyes
may be complicated and multi-factorial, ranging from poor contact lens hygiene, menopause,
autoimmune disease associated with rheumatologic disorders, and a host of other factors. Over-
the-counter remedies or procedures that are inappropriate and/or expensive if performed
without careful evaluation can often exacerbate the symptoms of dry eyes. During your dry eye
evaluation, we carefully review these factors and thoroughly assess your eyes and lids for signs
of disease that may be causative. Most cases of dry eyes are not curable, but can be successfully
managed with proper evaluation, use of appropriate medications and/or procedures.
Co-management of cataract & refractive surgery
Because we are an independent optometric practice, we have the ability to pick and work with
the finest surgeons in the area and can help you make an informed decision in choosing an eye
surgeon. We can make recommendations and discuss the surgery options that will best suit
you and your lifestyle. Our doctors are knowledgeable about the latest surgical techniques and
options. We offer consultations as well as preoperative and postoperative care for cataract and
refractive surgeries.
Contact lens fitting
With many years of successful contact lens fitting and problem solving, we offer comprehensive
contact lens care and availability as part of our goal of providing clear, comfortable and
safe visual alternatives to our patients. Difficult-to-fit conditions such as post-LASIK/PRK,
keratoconus, high astigmatism, traumatic corneal injury, post-corneal transplant, aniridia, and
multifocals are just some of the specialized contact lens procedures that are within our scope of
successful contact lens fitting.

We are all too aware that contact lenses can potentially cause serious harm to our eyes that in
some cases result in painful and blinding eye disease. Our contact lens evaluations therefore
consist of thoroughly assessing your candidacy to wear contacts, taking measurements on
your eyes, and determining the most suitable contact lenses for you. Instructions on insertion,
removal, and care for the contact lenses is performed, and in most cases, you may wear the
lenses home the day of the fitting. Follow up evaluations are performed to assure proper
contact lens performance and how it relates to the health of your eye and vision.
